I’m too weak, my breakfast was too big. It’s raining outside. I’m too fat, I’m too thin. It’s too hot. I have a headache. I would love to really, but I just can’t. My favorite show is on. I have a bad case of the Mondays, the Tuesdays, the Wednesdays. After new years I will start. I get too sweaty. I feel bloated. It’s too hard. I bruise easily. It’s too dark. It’s too cold. It’s dangerous and my blister hurts. Sorry, I don’t have any running shoes. I didn’t get enough sleep. I don’t like getting sweaty. I’m not the athletic type. I’m starting a new job. I’m too tired.

Sound familiar? It may not be entirely our fault – I have come to the conclusion that we humans are inherently lazy. Maybe it’s something to do with our “Monkey Brain”. A trait leftover from our ancestors’ days of conserving energy, to prepare for the next crisis. We all seem to struggle with excuses.

Even though I have called this little space on the interwebs “The Money Runner” I am not immune to the Monkey Brain. I struggle the same way as many of you. My monkey brain actively tries to convince me to sit down with that bag of oreo cookies and turn on youtube. The monkey brain tries to convince us that it’s for our own good. You must conserve energy as there is a real possibility that there will be no food tomorrow and that winter is coming and other dangers are lurking. The monkey brain doesn’t understand that the local superstore is open 24/7. It has no idea that we have central heating and a plethora of apps that ensure food is just a few taps away. It’s just trying to help. Good Monkey.

But there is one way to override the monkey brain. MONEY! What if I told you that you could get paid to run? Interested? Me too! Read on.

The RunBet app. It turns that tedious thing called running into a game. It’s not gambling because whether or not you win is entirely under your control.

At the start of each game, players commit to a specific running program while betting real money on themselves. If you complete the requirements, you’re a winner and you get back your original bet. Excellent. But this is where it becomes savage. If other players don’t complete their game that money gets split among the winners. You most likely will end up with a profit after every game. It’s usually a small profit but it feels good to get paid to run.

So, what’s worse than not exercising? Losing your money while you’re not exercising. At least it’s that way for me. It would pain me to lose $40 for being a lazyass. Honestly, the winnings are nice but I’m more motivated by not losing my money than by showing a small profit. Does it work? Yes.

There are many days where I still think of a number of excuses of why I shouldn’t go running and then I quickly ignore that shit, put on my running shoes and get er’ done. There is no way I’m going to lose this bet.

    1. I’ve heard of people doing both the step bet and run bet at the same time. Not sure if this is legit. Looks like they have a few others. DietBet
StepBet, RunBet, SweatBet. Make it happen.

  1. I’ve seen stuff like this before. You should do a post on the top money making apps. How much have you made on Run bet?

    1. I’ve won $13.20 in 4 months. I call that a win considering I would have been out there running anyway. It’s not gonna pay off your mortgage but I figure when I get enough to pay for a race fee I’ll withdraw. Great idea on the post I’ll put it on the list.

    1. The monkey is strong. Sometimes the hardest part is getting ready. Set out your gear the night before. Just put your shoes on and chances are you’re gonna go. Keep on runnin’
